I think humans are responsible for spoiling dogs and making too much of a fuss of them at times. I never forget the fact that my two are animals at the end of the day and I like the fact that now they can both be how dogs should be, outdoors and able to roam freely. I would never see my dogs suffer though and their health is always my concern. I guess if you give a dog a warm bivvy heater then it will get used to it…there is no going back now in the winter!!
The UK has a blanket of snow. The temperatures only serve to turn the snow into sheet ice. Hospitals are on high alert, Hip replacements, ankle supports and Claims Direct are all at the ready! Last nights ciggie before bed under a starry clear biting night turned an indulgent pleasure into a test of attrition. Only me and Ranulph Ffiennes could have finished that rollie off . I was glad I wasn’t returning to a bivvy but to a warm bed with the Lady. It did, however, offer up the thought of personal resolve. I love my winter fishing and do put in the hard hours that allows me to be called a ‘nutcase’ by family and non-fishing friends. As you highlight, the aim to winter fishing is to remain stable, warm, fed and ‘chipper’. I do own a cheap gas heater- described as a bivvy heater- which does take the edge off but keeps me constantly pondering if I am gasing myself. Not ideal. Yours’ looks the business. The missus has given me a hotwater bottle which now stands as ‘essential’ tackle when loading the van up. Simple and effective. Why had i not thought of this myself? The pics you’ve taken are fantastic- and great advice too. Anglers see stunning sights, sublime vistas and natures fleeting gifts that ordinarily ‘armchairs’ would miss. Capturing these moments can be as special as capturing the fish. With the right equipment, we are not solely fishing. We are Photographers, Writers/Poets, Chefs, Pioneers, Rangers, Boatmen, Alchemists, Weathermen and Masters of Ceremonies. OK, so we’re generally sat in our own filth, stinking of fishmeal, tired, tearful and expert in surpressing bowel movements. But it’s good. Isn’t it ?Take it easy Jake.
