this may be stupid, but could i use a catfish rod and reel combo for carp. i dont fish for monsters just little carp in a pond and small creek
also, what kind of gear and bait should i use.
yeah you can. just work the fish slow. for bait one thing we use is birdseed mixed with butternut flavoring, karo syrup & grape kool aid powder. pack it around your hook & toss it out there.

How to make rod holders for fishing
What kind of combo do you prefer when carp fishing?
The carp will be biting very good here next month and I can't wait! These big bruisers will be nesting and I swear you can't keep two rods in the water without one getting pulled in! I end up catching around 4-5 carp a trip, and a trip only lasts a couple hours or so. Just wondering what kind of rod, reel, and line you prefer for carp fishing.
I prefer a 7' medium action spinning rod and a spinning reel. I normally use around 17 lb. line, but will go as low as 10, and as high as 20. But I prefer a good 17 lb. mono for my spinning reels.
As for line I use Berkley Big game.
I use my trusty Abu Garcia 6500 reel and a 6'6 Shakespeare Ugly Stik rod. I use Berkley too or Trilene 15 lb. mono.
