Carp Fishing Rigs

Can someone please explain a simple coarse fishing rig to me please?

I really want to get in to coarse fishing here in the UK. I've been to a local lake a couple of times, and caught a small carp using a boilie fishing straight from the hook, with just a little shot lead to keep the line submerged. Pretty much the crudest rig imaginable I suppose, but with nobody to show me what to do I'm having to learn 'off the cuff'.

Can someone please explain to me, in the simplest of terms, a basic rig for river fishing if I'm aiming to go after roach, rudd, dace etc? I want to develop my skills by starting with simpler rigs and all the jargon is just confusing (feeder? waggler? paternoster? etc).

Simplest rig for River fishing =

1) Thread line through rings of the rod.

2) thread a snaplink swivel up the reel line (size12 should be about the right size)

3) stop off the end of the reel line with a regular swivel like these ones: http://www.mullarkeys.co.uk/fishing/hooks-lines-and-swivels/all-swivels/0/berkley/7018/

4) to the other end of that swivel, tie a length of line (about 6 - 18inch)

5) to the end of that length of line (aka "leader" or "Hooklength"), attach an eyed hook (e.g. Kamasan B980/B981, etc).... or skip 5 & 6, and use an ordinary ready tied "hook to nylon" instead.

6) Clip an "Arlesley bomb" or "flat bomb" or similar onto the snaplink swivel (it's easier to tie the hook on + bait up when you leave this bit 'til last... otherwise the weight nearly pulls the hook into your fingers as it swings around).
